What is the best free anti virus software?

Free antivirus is NOT recommended. There are a couple of decent options, but if you want to go without AV or run one of these free ones, know the weaknesses. Much lower detection, especially of NON common malware. Anything can detect ITW samples as they are easy to obtain. These programs also often have technical weaknesses, some cannot even detect certain types of malware. Tough polymorphic infectors may be less than thoroughly analysed.
