I recommend trying Combofix, BitDefender online scanner, and TrojanHunter before trying to fix a problem with HijackThis. I will still analyse HijackThis logs, but please run an online scan below first. If you want a last check for registry leftovers and completely unknown malware, you can send your hijackthis log for analysis. Please see the last image for my email address.

BEFORE YOU PROCEED please consider that Hijackthis is now obsolete against a lot of malware. To be sure your computer is safe, you need proper full time protection, and the latest in removal tools. If you cannot run an online scanner such as BitDefender or HouseCall, please try Combofix from BleepingComputer.com the official download site - as with anything there is a right place to download it, and that is it. This service best serves those logs posted on forums which don't receive help, which would be frustrating! Many many good forums do exist where there are lots of good helpers, but I'll do my best to get through as many logs a day as possible! please do not send a log if you have not tried Combofix and an online scanner!

NOTE it is sometimes required to rename HijackThis, to avoid malware hiding.
Save the program to disk and put HijackThis.exe into its own folder, as seen in all images C:\HijackThis

Open HijackThis! and you may see this screen. Once you make a log, send it (hijackthis.log) to me and we can go from there. If you have other firewall logs etc, let me know! Read on:

This is what happens the first time you run this program. If you have used it before you may have chosen to not see this screen and are taken straight to the scan/fix screen.

HijackThis will display a guided wizard for new users. Click the first option at the top of the list to create a log please.

After choosing the option Do a system scan and save a logfile this opens notepad with your log. Here is what happens in HijackThis:

The logfile gets saved to the folder, you can drag and drop onto a new email. Release the mouse button when the + sign appears to drop the file as an attachment. Send to the address shown in the screenshot for free HijackThis log service.

HijackThis is a program which requires expertise
Do not attempt to FIX any entries yourself if you cannot get help and are not sure about this program. Advanced users will research and use existing fixes made for specific spyware.

However I will look at virus - trojan - rootkit - spyware etc. files and create fixes. You can send any files we think are suspicious and track down problems. Perth customers can get hands on spyware removal at a great price.

HijackThis shows the most important registry locations which nearly all spyware adware trojans worms etc use to hide. Registry startups, BHO and Toolbars, Context menu and buttons, Trusted zone, DPF, Hosts file, AppInit, Services. Analysing the log allows me to give clear instructions to fix nearly any spyware problems remotely. My guess is about 90% of logs can be fixed remotely and you can fix the problem yourself.

You will receive a reply to any log I receive. Please ensure you use the correct email address, your mailbox is not full, and the reply to: in your mail program is correct. Please add my emails or domain to your filters if you use antispam technology.

Usual warning : Fixing the wrong entries could be disastrous so please wait for assistance. For this reason I do not recommend any type of automatic hijackthis log online analysis. Automated means risk. Your results are important and are hand checked.
