What is the best antivirus?

This is a most difficult question to answer. The true answer is there is no real best antivirus, it depends a little on what you want and need. I can nominate two exceptional leaders of their field. KAV has huge detection rates and is my most recommended choice. Many experts agree that if you have to narrow it down to one or two for absolute best anti-virus it always includes KAV. The detection rates are huge and always on top of every big test.

Get either KAV or NOD32 for best protection! - I recommend you download the program and then if not behind a hardware router with NAT firewall, disconnect from the internet altogether for a little while. Uninstall any anti-virus and reboot, then install KAV.

If you don't already have a lot of protection I recommend Microsoft AntiSpyware with KAV Suite (or just with KAV). Total cost with suite is $79.95 for the best protection possible from one product. Additional free products can then be used, or at small additional cost. Being secure should not require buying AV (or suite) PLUS ten other products. For just the AV, halve the cost ! but in nearly all cases a firewall is also recommended (Outpost).
